Shayher Group purchased the Pentridge site in 2013. Our main objective is to create an integrated hub of community activity with contemporary, architecturally superb residential, commercial and retail spaces that add to and celebrate the site’s rich heritage.

The vision for Pentridge is to create a vibrant, well-designed urban village that invigorates an important historical asset, transforming it into a new community hub complete with housing, retail, community areas and public open spaces.

The site is perfectly located to become the new heart of Coburg: a centre that will enhance the overall livability of the area by providing opportunities for integrated residential, commercial, food, leisure and retail offerings.

Preserving the site’s historic integrity, such as the famous bluestone walls, will be a priority. Thoughtful design and high quality construction will seamlessly integrate new buildings with existing heritage assets.

A rich heritage

The former HM Prison Pentridge is an iconic landmark. Established in 1850 when the population explosion caused by the gold rush increased pressure on the penal system, Pentridge went on to become Victoria’s longest-running prison.
