A new future sprouts at Pentridge Community Garden
Those of you who have been following all the latest with Pentridge will be aware that we now have our very own community garden!
Thanks to the efforts of co-founder Andrew Ogbourne and the Pentridge Community Garden team, residents of Coburg now have a location in place within the bluestone perimeter where they will soon be able to grow produce, and share their company and knowledge in an inclusive, welcoming environment.
The Pentridge Community Garden launch took place September 17 and proved a delightful day, as locals gathered to chip in and help bring something special to life. There were free seedling plantings for the kids, a produce swap, and a demonstration of proper composting technique.
The event was opened by local Member of Parliament Ms Lizzie Blandthorn, who offered her compliments and encouragement to all involved, and who brought attention to the Official Opening in an address to Parliament.
With Ms Blanthorn’s permission, we’d like to share her comments in full below:
‘We’re thrilled to have accommodated and assisted in such a worthy initiative,’ said Shayher Group’s Anthony Goh, ‘and extend our thanks and congratulations to everyone involved for their dedication and hard work.’
Special mention and thanks must also be extended to Moreland Community Gardening Inc. for all their guidance and assistance.
If you’re interested in getting involved in whatever way you can, or simply wish to meet some new faces, visit the Pentridge Community Garden Facebook page and let them know. They’ll also be running regular information sessions on all aspects of sustainable gardening, so follow their updates for all the latest!
