Latin Spring Festival

Pentridge welcomes first external community event

In the first of many, Pentridge will be opening its grounds to a community day celebration dedicated to art, music, food and culture – the colourful Latin Spring Festival.

This free event, celebrating the independence of Mexico, Chille and El Salvador, will be held in the main grounds of Pentridge and will showcase some of the best local Latin American performers and artisans.

A wide range of food vendors will also be at the event, offering tantalizing Latin street food while local musicians and dancers perform nearby. The Latin Spring Festival is the perfect event for Coburg locals and Melbourne families alike, with an abundance of activities to enjoy throughout the day and evening.

This event is the first external community day to be held at the site after Pentridge’s highly successful free community day in May. As the site evolves from a prison to a community inclusive space, Pentridge will be opening the public spaces to community festivals and events in the future. Each event will invite the people of Coburg and greater Melbourne to explore the grounds and begin creating positive memories in the space.

Shayher Group have committed over $2 million towards restoring heritage aspects of the Pentridge grounds while working with Cox Architecture on adaptive reuse concepts for the future of the site. Pentridge is set to transform into a community hub for Coburg over the coming years and well feature a vast outdoor piazza, boutique retail, residential apartments, offices and even a hotel.
