A scholarship gift for Coburg High

Criminologist and lecturer Michelle Noon returned once more to the bluestone surrounds of Pentridge Coburg for an encore presentation of her ‘Exploring Crime in Melbourne Today’ seminar, examining public perceptions and representations of crime in society and the media, and comparing them against what the research actually reveals about the prevalence of crime and how it impacts on communities.

The sold-out event reflected not only the enduring fascination with the darker underbelly of Melbourne and its surrounds, but also the dark romanticism of Pentridge’s past history as one of the country’s foremost sites of incarceration.

Michelle once again proved to be a knowledgeable and engaging host, and together Michelle and Shayher Group have elected to donate the proceeds of the event to Coburg High School, in support of a special scholarship to benefit a disadvantaged student in the coming new year.

Given Shayher Group’s initiative of conducting special prison tours for the students of Coburg High, we’re pleased to be able to contribute further towards one of Coburg’s most vital community institutions.

We’re certainly hoping to present more happenings of this nature in the coming months as we work to open Pentridge once more to the people of Coburg, and we thank Michelle for having been such an inspiring part of the story of Pentridge and its rebirth.

In the meantime, make sure to follow the Pentridge Facebook page for all the latest news and announcements as the old Bluestone College comes to life with a new vibrancy and purpose.
