Here are some answers to some commonly asked questions.
When will the Pentridge project be completed?
We are currently anticipating that Pentridge Coburg will be finished in 2028.
Are the heritage buildings being preserved?
Yes. Shayher Group has committed not just to the preservation of the buildings identified by Heritage Victoria, but also the restoration of key buildings including the Guard Towers, A and H Division, and more under the guidance of a Conversation Management Plan. Restoration work will be proceeding in tandem with new development, and their use informed buy a Heritage Interpretation Masterplan.
When will the shopping centre precinct be finished?
Pending the approval of the relevant permits, construction is due to commence in 2018 and will be completed in 2020.
How can I get to the shopping centre and Piazza once they are open?
Simply drive in on Whatmore Drive (Road A) from Pentridge Boulevard, or Moonering Drive (Road B) from Champ Street and Stockade Avenue. Alternatively, you can walk in on Success Lane (Road D) from Champ Street.
When will I be able to visit the Piazza area?
The Piazza precinct, including our main public open area, the Piazza, is currently in design and is expected to be finished in 2019. We are presently in the process of tenanting the surrounding new and heritage building with fabulous dining options for you to enjoy.
Will there be on-street parking?
Limited street parking will be available around the intersection of Champ Street and Moonering Drive. Existing parking is available on Pentridge Boulevard. Once open, underground car parking will also be available under the retail and shopping precinct of Building 9.
Where are the closest train and tram stops located?
Batman and Coburg train stations are an easy 10 minute walk from Pentridge Coburg. There is also a tram stop right outside Pentridge on the corner of Sydney Road and Champ Street, with the Number 19 tram providing a direct service into Melbourne CBD.
How quickly can I get into the city?
By tram or car, the trip to the city takes about 30 minutes outside peak hour, while the train from Batman or Coburg stations to Flinders Street Station takes approximately 25 minutes.
